The Cancer Thrivers Retreat is a day of renewal and connection designed for women who have journeyed through cancer. Surrounded by nature and fueled by clean, nourishing food, participants will explore ways to nurture body and soul through The Sacred 6, yoga, equine-assisted therapy, and art therapy.
Spend a day at the beautiful location of Therapy Ranch in Oakland Twp., Michigan. We will be hosted by 3 Moons Farm.
The full day retreat will include:

9:00 am-10:10 am Welcome and The Sacred 6 with Deborah Doherty
10:10-10:20 break
10:20 am -11:05 am Yoga with Lisa Madden, Certified Yoga Instructor & Sound Bowls with Karianne Spens-Hanna
11:05 am -11:15 am break and transition
11:15 am -12:15 am Equine-Assisted therapy with Lindsay Pennington and Karianne Spens-Hanna
12:15 pm -1:15 pm Healthy Lunch and integration in the Pony Up
1:15-2:15 Art Therapy in nature with Karianne Spens-Hanna
2:15-3:00 pm Equine-assisted Therapy with Lindsay & Karianne
3:00-3:15 pm closing
Cancellation Policy- Refunds will be provided up to April 15th after April 15th - May 1st, participants may transfer their registration to another participant. No refunds will be provided after April 15th, 2026.
Please dress for the weather, wearing layers of clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Please bring your yoga mat, we will have extra mats available.
Please bring a refillable water bottle.

Lindsay Pennington, PMHS, CPNP, Eagala Certified
Lindsay is the Founder and Director of Therapy Ranch. She graduated from Michigan State College of Nursing in 2000 and Wayne State University with a Master of Science in Nursing in 2005. She has spent her nursing career caring for youth in Detroit in school-based health clinics, providing primary care services. Since the age of 6 years old, Lindsay had ridden, trained, and competed with horses all across the United States and globally. She has been an Eagala Certified Equine Specialist since 2017. In 2019, Therapy Ranch was founded to provide an experiential way of learning connection and to provide a unique form of mental health services. As Director and Equine Specialist, Lindsay is dedicated to bringing awareness and accessibility to mental health interventions and providing trauma-informed care for all.
Karianne Spens-Hanna ATR, CADC-DP, Eagala Certified
Registered Art Therapist, Karianne, joined Therapy Ranch in 2021. Using her expertise as a Mental Health Professional and Eagala certified since 2021, she facilitates Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy that utilizes the power of art making. She works with all ages, specializing in trauma-informed care, Substance Abuse Disorders, and LGBTQ support.
Deb Doherty, PhD
Deborah Doherty is an Associate Adjunct Professor in the Physical Therapy Program at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. She recently retired as the Department Chair of the Human Movement Science Department and professor for the gross anatomy and neuroanatomy courses for the Doctor of Physical Therapy students at Oakland University. She is currently teaching in the Graduate Certificate in Oncology Rehabilitation at Oakland. Dr. Doherty has a BS in Physical Therapy from Northwestern University, MS in Hospital Administration form CMU and a PhD in Anatomy from Michigan State University. She was a founding member of the APTA Michigan Oncology Rehabilitation Special Interest Group and served as the Research Committee Chair as well as serving as the Co -Chair of the Michigan Cancer Consortium. Dr Doherty is also an advanced practitioner in the treatment of patients diagnosed with cancer. Her research focuses on Oncology Rehabilitation – survivorship and prevention. She is the co-creator of a modular educational program on Foundational Oncology Rehabilitation Practice delivered in the state of Michigan as well as internationally in South Africa and Bosnia. Dr. Doherty co-edited and co-authored the textbook entitled: Oncology Rehabilitation: A Comprehensive Guidebook for Clinicians published by Elsevier. She serves as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Cancer Coach, Consultant, and frequent lecturer nationally and internationally on the benefits of oncology rehabilitation to clinicians and cancer survivors. Dr. Doherty recently created “The Sacred 6” - a program focusing on healthy lifestyle behaviors for prevention of cancer and cancer recurrence. This includes a podcast and frequent lectures and presentations to healthcare practitioners and cancer survivors.
Lisa Madden
A yoga practitioner for over 25 years, Lisa Madden is a certified yoga therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapy, and a registered yoga teacher/continuing education provider with Yoga Alliance. She sees individual clients and groups through her business, Sattva Yoga Therapy; teaches at Soul Nectar Yoga + Wellness in Lapeer; and is a faculty member of the International Institute of Yoga Therapy.
